Chiropractic care works with the body’s own innate intelligence and healing potential that lives in your spine through the central nervous system. While the body can go days without water, weeks without food, and minutes without oxygen, it cannot last a second without proper nerve supply. The central nervous system controls all health and healing; your spine surrounds and protects it. When the body’s nervous system is functioning at 100% we have 100% health, anything less and pain and symptoms arise signalling dysfunction in the body. Instead of focusing on the symptoms we correct the cause of the stress which is spinal misalignment or subluxation. Subluxations in the spine put unnecessary pressure on the nervous system which creates symptoms and disease. By correcting the cause we allow the nervous system to function the way it was intended for vitality and life, through chiropractic adjustments symptoms disappear and health is restored.
Chiropractic adjustments are quite comfortable. The feel of an adjustment depends on which technique is used. Sensations can vary from a sensation of a small click of an instrument to the stretch of a muscle or release of tension. Adjustments for babies are often so gentle they sleep right through them. Children find the treatments enjoyable and usually want to have their adjustment before mom, dad and siblings get their turn!
It’s never too early to start your health on the right track. Beginning with birth the spine is stressed through the natural birthing process; with additional intervention can increase the stress to the delicate spine and nerves. Babies under care benefit immensely from having a properly aligned spine in order to have maximum developmental potential through the nervous system.
Dr. Carolyne Hiebert is proud to have a family wellness practice with a focus on infant and child chiropractic care.
As a child begins to grow and develop, the spinal structures are growing and changing too. Spinal assessments and specific adjustments allow the body to develop to potential without additional stress. As minor traumas and injuries occur during early and late childhood the spine and nerves become affected even when symptoms are not present. Chiropractic care is an essential part of any child’s healthy growth and development.
The best thing you can do is to have your baby checked as soon as possible after birth by a certified doctor of chiropractic.
Thought, preparation and specific training have gone into the care needed for babies and children. Little ones only require little adjustments either by hand or instrument to create positive change in their spinal health. Adjustments for infants and children are done with approximately 6-8 ounces of force, the same pressure you would use to press a ripe tomato without breaking the skin or to press your own eye. Babies and children love getting adjusted in our office and thrive under care!
Special Needs and At Home Program

Parents see the difference; teachers see the difference and the children most importantly FEEL the difference in having a nervous system functioning at 100%!

Chiropractic during Pregnancy and Post Partum
If you are pregnant, one of the best things you can do is seek care with a doctor of Chiropractic. Chiropractic care during pregnancy will allow you to stay comfortable and allow for an easier, more comfortable birth.
Optimal function of the body is critical at this time as the woman is now responsible for her own health as well as the growth and development of her baby. As the woman’s body changes in preparation for birth, many changes including biomechanical and hormonal changes will negatively affect the woman’s spinal alignment and health. Being checked by a certified doctor of chiropractic maintains spinal health and integrity for 100% function.
Research tells us that chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to:
- Help maintain pregnancy
- Control nausea
- Reduce back pain
- Maintain activity levels
- Allows for safer, easier births
- Reduces incidence of back labour
- Shortens labour time
Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to significantly reduce the length of time a woman labours; for first time mothers decreasing time of labour by 24% and for mothers who had previously given birth, decreasing labour by 39%!
Dr. J Fallon, Proceedings of the World Chiropractic Congress
Post Partum chiropractic care is crucial as the spine and pelvis is now healing post birth and delivery and hormonal and biomechanical changes to the woman’s spine and pelvis are once again occurring. New activities which including feeding, lifting heavy car seats and tending to the needs of a new baby can stress the woman’s spine as well. Post Partum care enables and ensures healing of the spinal and pelvic structures and reducing stress to the woman’s body.
Active Release Techniques®
Active Release Techniques® soft tissue management system uses motion to fix soft tissue adhesions that occur when trauma or repetitive stress to the body occurs. Once the injury or area of concern has been assessed, the provider uses hands on treatment and patient motion in order to correct these problem areas of soft tissue adhesions. Freeing up the soft tissue allows for proper function of the body and muscles, releasing entrapped nerves and allowing optimal function.

Chiropractic for Car Accidents
Have you or a loved one been involved in a motor vehicle collision? Motor vehicle collisions even at low speed can be devastating to your health. Soft tissue injuries, whiplash and damage to the spine occur with trauma.
Damage to your vehicle is not indicative of the damage that may have been done to your spine and nervous system. The only way to know if you have been injured in a motor vehicle collision is to be examined by a certified doctor of chiropractic.
After a thorough health history and examination at our office we can determine the extent of the damage done to your spine and begin working on a plan to enable you to get back to your life and health!
Even with correct car seat installation, damage to the spine and nerves may occur in infants and children, they too should be checked by a chiropractor to determine the extent of their injuries.
What is a spinal adjustment or correction?
The doctor of chiropractic applies specific movement by hand or instrument to correct the alignment of the specific vertebrae to promote optimal function of the nervous system and improve the strength of the spinal joints. They can be performed with the doctor’s hands, a special chiropractic table or specific instruments. For the typical patient, a spinal adjustment feels very comfortable and each and every spinal adjustment that we employ is safe and effective.
Are all patients’ spines corrected the same way?
No. Spinal correction processes are determined by the condition of your spine, specifically. Each patient is an individual case, evaluated and given recommendations for his/her age, size and health goals. Our clinic’s extensive evaluation process ensures that we fully recognize and understand your condition, limitations and goals prior to developing your patient-specific care plan.
How should I feel after my adjustments?
Some patients feel significantly better after one adjustment, other patients may feel about the same or experience a little bit of soreness. If such soreness occurs, it’s typically due to the lack of movement, tight muscles or advanced nerve involvement in the area of your spine requiring correction. Soreness is easily alleviated with the application of ice for approximately 15 minutes after treatment. The spinal correction process will physically affect the vertebrae and affect the surrounding muscle tissue, which can cause short-term soreness in a small percentage of patients. As your spine begins to heal and correct into good alignment any soreness is minimal.
Can young children and the elderly seek care?
Of course! Chiropractic is safe for developing bones and aging bones alike. To maintain and prevent conditions from occurring, it is recommended to receive chiropractic care throughout life. If the condition has already developed, specific spinal correction techniques can be utilized to prevent further deterioration and/or reverse chronic, long-term health conditions naturally.
Is it bad to pop or crack your neck and back?
The ablility to pop and crack is a sign that your spine is weak, unstable and at risk for developing additional health conditions over time. Specific spinal adjustments and the process of spinal correction will strengthen and stabilize spinal segments, preventing spinal deterioration.
If I have osteoporosis or have had back surgery, can chiropractic help me?
Yes, it certainly can. We have specific instruments and a variety of techniques we can use to treat sensitive conditions like osteoporosis. Our specific evaluations help determine how we can best help you, regardless of condition.
Often, when people have a significant single area of concern in their backs, they tend to forget the importance of maintaining the health of the rest of their spine.
Surgeries commonly add stress and promote nearby tissue deterioration that should be managed proactively. One of the most common reasons for additional surgeries is mismanagement or non-management of the effects of the first surgery. We can help treat the segments of your spine surrounding the surgically treated area, so it stays strong from top to bottom.
Will insurance cover chiropractic care?
Individual private insurance plans may vary but most cover chiropractic care. You are welcome to bring your extended health insurance coverage information to your first visit to the office as we are happy to work with your insurance plan and in some cases can even direct bill.
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes, they are very safe. There are countless published studies proving chiropractic’s safety and effectiveness. Our specific evaluation and treatment techniques provide optimal results without dangerous invasive procedures or highly addictive drugs.
Once you go to a chiropractor do you always have to go?
Individuals who continue to come in for maintenance or wellness based care see the value and have received the benefits of a healthy spine and nervous system. Nothing physiologically requires you to continue care once you have started but if you have been under chiropractic care for some time and see the major health improvements most individuals CHOOSE to continue their care in office, just as you would choose to eat well and exercise.
